This week at BIS Abu Dhabi, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. Leslie Williams, the Senior Programme Lead for Social Impact and Giving at Nord Anglia, and the EDIB Global Equality Chairperson. Dr. Williams played a crucial role during her visit, engaging with both our students and staff in various impactful ways.

This week, Year 1 students visited StuDIYo Lab in Abu Dhabi Mall for their Term 1 school trip.

On Monday and Tuesday last week, 5 students from BIS Abu Dhabi took part in the 2023 BSME Golf Competition hosted by Cranleigh School at Yas Acres Golf Club.

Dear Parents, We have the pleasure of inviting you to join your child at school to take part in our National Day Celebration on Wednesday, 29th November from 11:30am to 3:00pm. Parents are welcome to attend the performances, join in on the carnival-style activities and take a look around our UAE themed souq.

We are delighted to announce that after a challenging interview process spanning two days, our current Assistant Head and former Head of Maths, Mr. Alan Grant, has been appointed as the Deputy Head of Secondary with effect from the 1st January 2024.

Our Eco-Enterprise event that took place on Thursday, 12th October, included a day full of demonstration of leadership skills from students of all ages, who ran stalls and activities. From photo booths and jewelry making stalls to obstacle courses and “Sponge the Teacher”, the day was filled with excitement and unity as students partook in the vast range of creative activities available.

A song and dance I went to a Flamenco show last week. It was quite extraordinary. Not quite up there with the Flamenco show I once saw in a rather grotty café in downtown Madrid around the corner from the Atocha train station, but still, truly excellent. The thrill of live action music and dance, the possibility of an error, the sound, the light, the tension throughout the theatre…..

The second edition of Yalla Abu Dhabi's ‘The Art of Recycling competition’ is back! This is a chance for our students get involved and be in with a chance winning some amazing prizes for their efforts.

Dear Parents, We are delighted to share some exciting updates regarding our dining service and our approach to physical wellbeing. Our students have been an integral part of this transformation, providing us with valuable feedback, and we are excited to share the changes that have taken place.

In July this year, 2 of our students attended the Nord Anglia Summit in New York. Rafaa in Year 12 and Arya in Year 13. Rafaa and Arya were involved in many activities throughout the week, and had an opportunity to meet ambassadors and other students from around the world. Arya has reflected on her experiences and shared them with us here. Arya and Rafaa are now working closely with Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Brazier to look at ways to continue to raise the profile of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at BIS Abu Dhabi, as well as promote Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Year 10 Fine Art & Photography Students hone their designs skills using the latest technology! Year 10 Visual Art students had the exciting opportunity to explore the latest technology the digital tech world has to offer, in a day of workshops lead by a specialist support team of mentors at the Apple Store, Galleria Mall. Both Fine Art & Photography GCSE students got to experiment with different digital media, whilst under the expert guidance and supervision of the Apple Team.

At the heart of our school, kindness, empathy, and compassion are not just words; they are the essence of who we are. In the tapestry of our school community, they are the vibrant threads that bind us together, creating a resilient fabric of support, understanding, and love.

From 17th to 25th September, students from Year 10 to 13 set off on an unforgettable Spanish Trip to Cuenca!  Mykalia, from 11C, has shared with us an exciting overview of their trip, highlighting all the incredible experiences they had. 

On Wednesday, Year 12 IB German students (HL/SL) opened their classroom doors to find a completely different set up – The Middle East Side Gallery. They were able to walk around an interactive museum, take notes of and learn about major artworks from the Berlin Wall and even got a chance to create their own ‘Graffiti Tag’.

On Tuesday, Year 3 teachers invited parents in for a Reading Workshop. The workshop provided parents with insights into our school's approach to teaching reading and offered practical tips on how they can support their child's reading development at home.

Year 4 have been studying innovation in their Social Studies lessons. Our overarching theme for Term 1 is sustainability, so we issued an optional homework task that merges the two ideas.  Students were asked to research someone or something from the UAE that has been designed or campaigned for sustainable change.

Last week, we had a very special visitor come to school to deliver some training for our Social Studies and Islamic teachers. Dr. Haïfa Ben-Romdhane -Environmental engineer, Marine scientist and researcher delivered a very hands on training opportunity whereby colleagues were introduced to the Sustainable Development Goals and Cop 28 vision.
