As an international student, it’s essential that my path to further education opens up a global passport for my future. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme that I’m studying at The British International School Abu Dhabi ticks all of the boxes for me; it is recognised internationally giving me the freedom to choose where in the world I would like to continue my studies.

Another fantastic Bis Got Talent show took place today with students throughout Year 1 to Year 13 getting involved in the festivities.

We are very pleased to share the news that after the recent ADEC inspection, our school has been judged as a Band A, 'Very Good', High Performing School.

The British International School Abu Dhabi is hosting an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme Information Evening at 6pm on Sunday 31st January 2016. Parents and students are invited to attend, including current BIS Abu Dhabi families as well as those looking to join the school for the IB Course in Year 12 and 13.

As part of providing in-school adult learning opportunities for parents we are pleased to announce that English Language lessons will be offered in Term 2. The lessons will be delivered by an external teacher, David Warr, who has over 20 years experience in English language teaching.

Year 10 and 11 students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award completed their practice journey on the weekend, successfully trekking 12 km across desert in over 35 degree heat to make their way to camp.

Today the students, staff and visitors of The British International School were proud to celebrate UAE Flag Day.

As part of the FS1 first term focus on Incy Wincy Spider and Wheels on the Bus, FS1 celebrated with a whole year group ‘Nursery Rhyme Day!’

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month at BIS and the PTA and student community have organised important initiatives to raise awareness and funds.

As announced last week we are very pleased to launch in-school classes for parents commencing next week. These weekly adult learning opportunities will allow BIS to be a place of learning enjoyment for everyone, not only students.

We would like to invite FS2 parents to our workshop on Monday 5th October at 8am. The aim of the workshop will be to give parents a better understanding of how we teach Phonics and how you may help support your child at home.

We have received official confirmation that school will be closed on Wednesday 23rd September and Thursday 24th September 2015 to mark Eid Al Adha. School will resume again on Sunday 27th September 2015.

The Arabian Swim Academy will be hosting after-school inclusive swimming lessons with small graded classes, at BIS Abu Dhabi on Saturdays through to Thursdays.

Expressions of Dance & Drama will be offering Ballet CCA classes at BIS Abu Dhabi every Sunday for BIS students aged 4 to 8 years old.

Following our annual review of the students in our four Houses – Ash, Elm, Oak and Willow – it has been decided that wherever possible, siblings will be placed in the same House.

Enrollment for instrumental music lessons at BIS Abu Dhabi is now open. Instrumental lessons will take the same format as last year, where pupils will leave their classrooms for 30 minutes to be taught by a specialist music teacher from the Juli Music Institute.

Trials for the primary school swim team will be held over the next 2 weeks.

Every new school year is an exciting time for teachers and students and in preparation it is important that we remind ourselves of the high standards of appearance we expect from our students.

The team aim to ensure your child settles as quickly and happily as possible into their new class setting.To further ease your child’s transition into school, the first two weeks of the new school year will be staggered for our youngest FS starters and the first week staggered for our FS2 starters. Not only will this support your child to gently and confidently adjust to their new environment but it also provides a valuable opportunity to chat with the class teacher and receive feedback about these important first few days at school.
