We have received official confirmation from ADEC of our 2015/16 academic year dates. The first official school day will be Sunday 30th August 2015.

The Year 6 BISCARS 2015 took place on the 14th of June. The BISCARS is a graduation ceremony presented for Year 6 in preparation of moving up into Secondary School. During the ceremony students were presented with awards such as PSHE awards, The Arts award, The Music awards, PE awards and more.

Here at BIS Abu Dhabi we are hugely fortunate to have such a strong and committed ancillary team. This morning two assemblies took place to thank our ancillary staff for their hard work throughout the year.

The Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to commence on Thursday 18th June 2015, depending on moon sighting. BIS Abu Dhabi will be making arrangements to accommodate students and staff who are fasting according to guidelines from the Ministry of Education.

We are excited to announce the graduation events to celebrate our Year 13 students’ academic achievement. We invite our graduating students and their families to get together before they move on to university or the next phase of their lives.

The Second Hand Uniform sales committee is pleased to introduce a new portfolio, The Costume Shop, which will sell second hand costumes.

On Saturday 14th March six BIS Abu Dhabi students went to Dubai College to compete in the ‘Middle East History Bee and Bowl’ competition, a history quiz version of a spelling bee. There were a number of International schools also competing from across the UAE.

The annual Terry Fox run is just around the corner! We won’t be holding an event at our school this year, however we will be going to the Corniche to participate in the city-wide event. We would like to encourage anyone who is free to come and join, including students, their families, and staff. This is an incredible event and a great charity and it will be a wonderful way to spend a beautiful, sunny day.

On Monday 26th January, Year 12 ESS (Environmental Systems and Societies) students went on a trip to Al Ain Zoo. Students were given a special tour by the zoo’s Head of Education Mr. Mathew Cocks who is himself a former IB ESS teacher.

This year we are using a new electronic system to make signing your child up for an ECA easier and fairer. Registrations are now open.

Our school very proudly hosted the prestigious BSME U15 Games 2014 between 27 - 29 November, which were a huge success.

You may have noticed that the school has undergone a transformation this week as we prepare for our National day celebrations. Many of the children have been busy at home preparing a tribute to the UAE. Please take the time to view the displays which will be placed in the different entrances of the school.

Following on from my weblog posting on 27th October, we are constantly reviewing our health and safety procedures in line with good practice. Additionally we take the safeguarding of our children at all times as our highest priority. Earlier in the week we carried out a routine fire drill with our students to make them well aware of the need to evacuate the building when the alarm goes off.

We will be introducing ECAs for parents who would like to learn either English or Arabic, which will commence next term. It will be a great opportunity for you to learn a new language while your children are busy in their ECA.

Following in the footsteps of our 7 global ambassadors who took part in Nord Anglia Education’s expedition alongside students from 18 of our school worldwide last year, Mrs Wallace headed to Nord Anglia's Shamba Kipara expedition camp for the annual senior leadership conference.

This year the school is planning some exciting celebrations for National Day with our students and their families. There will be a lot of events taking place over Sunday November 30th and Monday December 1st, look out for more information on these in the coming weeks.

Well done to all the entrants of the summer reading competition. It was a difficult task for members of the Curriculum Access Team to judge, but we are pleased to announce the following 5 students who were announced as winners in Assembly.

We are very pleased to announce that The British International School Abu Dhabi will be hosting the prestigious U15 BSME Games 2014 (British Schools in the Middle East).

Throughout the months of October and November, Years 5, 6 and 7 will have the opportunity to participate in their respective school camps. The camps will be run by North Star, under the supervision of the BIS Abu Dhabi staff.

Parents are reminded that the 2013/14 yearbooks can be collected from the main reception. If you did not purchase a yearbook but would like to, the good news is there are still some copies available.
