PhD, iPGCE (with iQTS)
Dr Gisela Kaltenpoth joins BSB Shunyi as a Secondary Science teacher following a distinguished career in scientific research and international business. She holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Heidelberg, where she specialised in nanoparticles. She has also completed an iPGCE with iQTS through Coventry University.
Before entering teaching, Gisela spent 25 years at Mercedes-Benz. She held senior roles in research and development as well as quality management. Her work involved leading international teams and applying scientific thinking to complex practical problems.
This experience allows Gisela to show students how classroom science connects with industry and everyday life. She wants students to see that scientific ideas are not confined to textbooks. Her lessons will place strong emphasis on investigation and purposeful practical work.
After this extensive career in industry and completing her teacher training, Gisela chose to bring her scientific expertise into education. She has taught Science at Key Stage 3 and worked with examination groups, giving her experience across both lower secondary and senior secondary teaching.
Having lived and worked in several countries, Gisela values the international character of BSB Shunyi. Outside school, she enjoys running and scuba diving. She is also interested in supporting the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or the Tanzania Project.
