BA, PGCE
Oliver Mason joins BSB Shunyi as an experienced History teacher and pastoral leader. He holds a BA in History and a PGCE. He has worked in schools across Cambridgeshire and Milton Keynes, where he taught History and held significant pastoral responsibilities.
As a Head of Year, Oliver has led year groups of up to 360 students. His work focused on ensuring that students felt known and supported during an important stage of their education. He has also organised curriculum visits across Europe and careers-focused trips designed to broaden students’ understanding of future opportunities.
One of Oliver’s most notable achievements was establishing and managing his school’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme. Under his leadership, it became the largest DofE centre in the city, with 185 students signing up to participate. Many went on to complete their awards successfully.
Oliver believes History should help students understand how the past continues to shape the present. He encourages students to examine different interpretations and support their conclusions with evidence. In his classroom, students can expect purposeful discussion and careful analysis.
At BSB Shunyi, Oliver looks forward to supporting students both academically and pastorally. He is also keen to improve his Mandarin, which currently extends far enough to order a coffee.
