Director of Sport
Richard Dook - Richard Dook

B.Ed (Hons)

Richard Dook brings more than 33 years of experience in education to BSB Shunyi. He began his career in Suffolk, England, where he taught Physical Education and worked as a pastoral Year Head. For the past 21 years, he has worked in international schools across Asia and the Middle East.

During his international career, Richard has served as Head of Physical Education in both primary and secondary settings. He most recently worked as Director of Sport. These roles have provided him with extensive experience in curriculum development and the leadership of school sports programmes.

Richard’s approach is built around “Sport and Activity for All”. He believes every student should be able to participate in physical activity at a level that allows them to experience progress and enjoyment. His aim is to create opportunities for students who already excel in sport while also encouraging those who may feel less confident.

During his time in Qatar, Richard planned and led the athletics section of the U11 and U13 Qatar Games at the Aspire Dome, bringing together athletes from 25 international schools. He has also developed girls’ football programmes offering both competitive and recreational pathways. This approach increased participation and allowed students with different levels of experience to build confidence and enjoy the game.

At BSB Shunyi, Richard will focus on increasing participation and helping students develop a positive relationship with physical activity.

Outside school, Richard enjoys playing golf and is an avid supporter of Hull City AFC.
