Nick believes that mathematics can be useful, fun and beautiful – and preferably all three at the same time! He hopes that his industry experience helps reinforce the real-world applications of techniques our students are taught throughout IGCSE and A level.
Nick held senior management positions as a mathematician in the banking and energy sectors, including Head of Financial Risk Analysis for Barclays plc and Senior Market Risk Manager for E.ON UK. He also has experience teaching maths at secondary schools in the UK and, more recently, as a researcher at London University.
In his view, far more important than pure academic attainment is that students should feel good about themselves and use this as the foundation to explore their unique talents and interests, a view which was influenced significantly by his time working as a listening volunteer for Samaritans UK.
Nick is married with a son who is currently at university in the UK. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and exploring Moscow and he intends learning Russian to better appreciate Russian life and culture. He maintains active research interests in the application of mathematics and statistics and is currently Visiting Researcher at Birkbeck, University of London where he supervises two MSc students.
